This little Chinese Takeaway and Restaurant in First Ave, just opposite KFC and not far from the Maroochy RSL has started to get a name for itself. The takeaway does a roaring trade, so it pays to phone first if you’re wanting to takeaway (contact details below).
Chinese is generally not my first choice for dinner, but for various reasons I’ve been there a few times over the past few months – once with a large group of 12. Each time I’ve been I’ve been very impressed with the service and the speed the food comes out. The group I went with is a fussy bunch and they all raved about it afterwards – mostly I think due to the value for money – particularly when you take into account the fact it is BYO.
The staff all have English as a second language so that can be a bit of a struggle at times, but provided you speak clearly, or preferably point on the menu what you are after, they get the order spot on.
It’s BYO and quite a casual space to dine in, but they have aircon which is great on those hot nights when you don’t feel like cooking (aka every night for me!).
The dumplings are good, the fried rice is ok, the duck is incredible – the duck with little rice pancakes is my absolute favourite. The old-school Chinese dishes such as lemon chicken and sweet and sour dishes are fantastic. We’ve also had a couple of curries and they were good too. The good thing about it being so reasonably priced (eg the medium fried rice is only $8) – you can order a bunch of dishes and leave with a very full stomach (and a couple of doggy bags too for lunch the next day – or midnight feasts should you not wish to wait for the next day).
We’ve had takeaways a couple of times, the last time was on a Thursday night around 6pm and we sat and waited for around 45mins so that wasn’t ideal – I’m guessing judging by the people coming and going that they were all regulars and know to phone their orders through first. There were also a lot of policemen collecting their orders too – I’m not sure what that means but it could only be good, right?
I wouldn’t drive miles to get to it, although if you happened to be in the area and hankering for some Chinese then give it a try – it’s also great for feeding large groups at a reasonable price.

They have quite an extensive menu – but the part I liked the most was in the Rice Dishes section where it states “All rice dishes can be served without rice” !
